LEADERS ARE CARRIERS
LEADERS ARE CARRIERS
II KINGS 4:1-7
4 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
As leaders God calls us to more. In the scripture we see three ways God calls us to more. He wants to use you to participate in the miracle he's going to provide. YOU are a CARRIER (VESSEL) USED by God for such a time as this.
1. GOD WORKS THROUGH WILLING VESSELS
Vessels aren't perfect or fancy. When Elisha told the woman to collect as many vessels as she could, she didn't collect them based on the condition. God will use anyone he wants to use. It doesn't matter your age, color, sin, shame -- God can still use YOU.
2. OBEDIENCE CREATES OVERFLOW
Obedience is always the first step we must take. The prophet gave instruction and direction. When God calls us to something, it's our job to say "yes". We leave the rest up to God. The woman had to get the vessels and the oil she had, and God did the rest. When we feel God call us, and we say "yes" but then change our mind, we miss out on the miracle God has for us.
3. THE MORE VESSELS THE MORE VICTORIES
The oil stopped flowing when they ran out of vessels. God wants to create more miracles, but he wants as many vessels as possible. Let's tell our neighbors, co-workers, friends, family about what God is doing so they they can all be a part of the miracle God wants to do.
WHAT DOES A CARRIER LOOK LIKE AT red?
1. Leaders Carry Enthusiasm - Romans 12:11
We serve with passion because Jesus is worth it.
2. Leaders Carry Peace - Matthew 5:9
We bring calm in chaos.
3. Leaders Carry Humility - Philippians 2:3-4
It's not about status -- it's ALL about serving.
4. Leaders Carry Excellence - Colossians 3:23
We give our best in everything - big or small.
5. Leaders Carry Generosity - 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
We live open handed.
6. We Carry Heaven - Matthew 6:10
We don't lead for today, we lead with eternity in mind.
Next Steps
1. Invite Someone To Be A Part
2. Step up and lead a team @ red (If you're not a Team Lead, ask how you can be)
3. Begin giving regularly to red (Set up a recurring Tithe or regular donations).
When we come together, and do these things, God will begin to work miracles in our city!
OUR PRAYER
Lord, I don't have to be perfect -- just available. Fill me, use me, and let my obedience lead to overflow in my city and church!
Thanks for being a City Builder!
